Zé Campeiro e Tião do Vale

Zé Campeiro and Tião do Vale were a Brazilian sertanejo duo from Goiás. They met in the early 1950s at a local bar and began collaborating on songs that drew from the traditional folk music of their rural region. Their breakthrough came in 1961 with the album 'Recordação de Carreiro,' which featured the title track that became one of their most recognizable songs.

Their music incorporated instruments like the viola caipira and guitarrão, with lyrics that often touched on themes from country life. Songs like 'Estrela de Ouro' and 'Flor Morena' show their blend of traditional melodies with the duo's vocal harmonies. They released over 30 albums together, including 'Moda da Saudade' in 1962 and 'O Menino da Porteira' in 1964.

While popular, they sometimes faced criticism from purists who felt they were commercializing sertanejo. But their recordings found an audience across Brazil, bridging rural and urban listeners. Their partnership lasted for decades, with Zé Campeiro on vocals and viola caipira, and Tião do Vale on vocals and guitarrão.
