Zé da Barca and Rei do Gado were a sertanejo duo from Goiás, formed in 1993. Their real names were Edson Cordeiro da Paz and Rémi Farias de Souza. They started playing in local bars and rodeos before recording together.
Their song 'Embarque de Boiada' became an anthem about cattle drives and rural life. Another track, 'Lá No Céu Não Tem Trapaça,' also gained attention. Their music drew from sertão traditions and often depicted the experiences of people in Brazil's backlands.
They released albums including 'Zé da Barca e Rei do Gado' in 1994 and 'Nova Geração' in 1996. Zé da Barca died in 2017. Rei do Gado has continued performing since then.
