Zé da Campina formed in Itaúna, Minas Gerais in 1995. The original lineup included Zé da Campina on vocals, guitarist Chico Amaral, bassist Márcio Bruno, and drummer Rildo Hora. Their debut album came out in 1999, and its single 'Madrugando' became a hit that brought them wider attention.
Their music draws from Brazilian traditions like sertanejo and samba, but they've also incorporated pop and funk elements across their albums. Songs like 'Moldura de Retrato' and 'Samba de Ocasião' show their range. They've worked with artists including Milton Nascimento, Maria Rita, and Djavan.
The band's lineup has changed over time, though Zé da Campina has remained the constant vocalist and songwriter.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
