Zé do Porto e Beiramar formed in 1978 around frontman José Carlos Santos, guitarist Rui Costa, and bassist João Catarino. They came out of Porto and Beiramar, and their first album, 'Andorinhas do Mar,' arrived in 1982. That record found an audience and gave the band some national recognition.
It became one of their most notable tracks, alongside others like 'Laço de Traição' and 'Romeiros de Aparecida.' The band's lineup shifted over time, with vocalist Teresa Salgueiro joining in 1984.
They kept making albums through the 80s and 90s, including 'Por este Rio Abaixo' in 1983 and 'Rosa Branca' in 1987. Their sound mixed guitars and keyboards with traditional Portuguese elements, driven by Santos's distinctive voice.
