Zé do Rancho formed in 1975 in the rural state of Goiás, Brazil, with members who shared an interest in traditional countryside music. The band worked within the sertanejo genre, which is associated with Brazilian cowboy culture. Their song 'Saudade da Minha Terra' reflects this rural focus.
In 1982, the group gained wider attention with the release of 'Disparada,' a song about the life of a solitary cowboy. This track became popular nationally and remains well-known. The band's lineup has included founder and vocalist José Adelino Barbosa, along with guitarist Eduardo and bassist Chico.
Zé do Rancho faced some criticism from traditionalists who felt their approach to sertanejo music was too modern. Despite this, they continued performing and recording for several decades, maintaining a connection with audiences who appreciated their energetic live shows and rural themes.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
