Zé Gonçalvez

Zé Gonçalvez was a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Pernambuco who grew up in a farming family. His music drew from the folk traditions of his region and artists like Geraldo Vandré, giving voice to the experiences of rural communities.

In the 1970s, he gained attention with songs that addressed land inequality and the struggles of farmers. His track "A Peleja Do Homem Com Os Donos Da Terra" became particularly known for its direct engagement with these themes. Other songs like "Acauã, que Tom É Esse?" and "Um olhar sobre o sertão" reflected his connection to the countryside and its people.

His work faced censorship during that period, with radio bans and official pressure reported. He released several albums including a self-titled debut in 1973 and "A Peleja Do Homem Com Os Donos Da Terra" in 1975, performing with musicians like Zé da Flauta on flute and Mestre Paulo on percussion.
