In 1994, Zé Marques was diagnosed with throat cancer, which interrupted their work. He underwent treatment and eventually recovered enough for the duo to return to performing, as captured on the 1995 live album 'Marquês e Santina ao Vivo no Olympia.' Their music, including songs like 'Nosso Deus Não Falha,' maintained a straightforward emotional appeal that connected with Portuguese listeners for years.
