Zé Matão e Matãozinho

Zé Matão e Matãozinho were brothers from Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, who started performing together in the 1940s. They worked as itinerant musicians at local festivals and parties before recording their first album in 1959. That record was called 'Buquê de Flores,' named after the song that became their best-known track.

Their music had a straightforward appeal with simple lyrics and melodies that connected with listeners. Along with 'Buquê de Flores,' songs like 'Solidão de Boiadeiro' and 'Sombra Que o Vento Leva' became part of their repertoire. They released several albums in the early 1960s, including 'Sonho de Vaqueiro' and 'Amor de Verdade.'

In the early 1960s, they faced accusations of plagiarism over a song called 'Mulher Ingrata,' though the matter was eventually resolved. Matãozinho also struggled with personal issues related to alcohol and drugs during this period. The brothers continued performing together, with Zé Matão handling vocals and guitar while Matãozinho sang and played percussion.
