Archive material and source history
Zé Matão e Zé Matias were a Brazilian duo who worked in the sertanejo style. Their song "À Procura do Meu Bem" became their best-known track, and they recorded others like "Amor Secreto" and "Pra Quê Solidão?"
Zé Matão, born José de Assis Matias, handled most of the singing and writing. Zé Matias, born José Francisco Ferreira, played guitar and added harmonies. They started performing together as teenagers.
In the late 1970s they signed with a major label and put out their first album. Their music sometimes drew attention from censors, including a 1984 ban on the song "Feira de Vaidades." They kept recording through the 1980s and 1990s, with albums like "Amor Bandido" and "Acústico." Zé Matão died in 2015.
