Zé Netto e Ailton

Zé Netto e Ailton formed in Itapetininga, São Paulo in 1966, playing local bars and festivals before their 1970 debut album. The title track "Aconteceu Comigo" became a hit, establishing them in the Brazilian seresta scene. Their sound leaned on Zé Netto's raw vocal delivery and Ailton's accordion work, which some traditionalists criticized but many listeners found honest.

They released over twenty albums through the 1970s and 1980s, including songs like "Bebendo No Gargalo" and "Na Primeira Dose." In 1984, they faced a plagiarism accusation over the melody of "Amor Perfeito," which led to a legal battle and a temporary dip in their popularity. The duo kept recording despite this setback.

Their catalog includes collaborations like "Covardia" with Pedro Paulo e Matheus and "Eu Me Mudei Pro Bar" with Roni e Ricardo. While not as active in later years, their earlier work remains part of the seresta genre's fabric, with songs still played in Brazilian contexts where that style holds sway.
