Zé Renato and André Alves were a Brazilian duo who worked together in the 1980s. Zé Renato came from Rio de Janeiro, while André Alves was from São Paulo. Their debut album came out in 1982, and they released several more records through the decade, including one in 1985 that shared its name with their well-known song "Tudo No Esquema!"
Their music drew from samba and bossa nova, with Zé Renato handling vocals and guitar and André Alves on percussion. The lyrics often dealt with social issues, which sometimes led to friction with authorities. They collaborated with other Brazilian musicians like Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque.
By the early 1990s, they had put out a live album. Their song "Tudo No Esquema!" remains their most recognizable track.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
