Zé Ripe was a Brazilian band fronted by singer-songwriter Zeca Baleiro, with bassist Orlando Mendes and drummer Eugênio Dale. They formed in 1996 after Baleiro had been performing solo in São Paulo for several years. Their debut album 'Por Onde Andei...' came out in 1997 and included the song 'Bobeira,' which became a hit and brought them wider attention.
That track 'Bobeira' had a playful, irreverent quality that connected with younger listeners. The band's sound mixed folk, rock, and samba elements. They released a few more albums like 'Pentecostal' in 1999 and 'Querelas do Brasil' in 2001, which touched on social and political themes while keeping their musical blend. Zé Ripe stopped working together in 2003.
