Zé Sanfoneiro, born Antônio José dos Santos, played accordion and sang lead, while Zé Filho, born José Francisco dos Santos, handled vocals and percussion. They worked together for about three decades, releasing over 30 albums.
It became their best-known track. They also recorded other songs like "Acabou o Amor," "O Sanfoneiro do Povo," and "Meu Vaqueiro, Meu Peão."
Zé Sanfoneiro died in 2013. Zé Filho kept performing on his own until he passed away in 2019.
