Zé Tapera e Casanova

Zé Tapera e Casanova were a Brazilian duo from Pernambuco who began working together in the late 1970s. Their music drew from traditional Brazilian rhythms, sometimes with a psychedelic touch. Their biggest hit was "A Dama de Vermelho," a song known for its haunting melody and evocative lyrics.

Their lyrics often dealt with themes of poverty, social injustice, and forbidden love, which sometimes brought them into conflict with censors and critics. They released several albums, including their self-titled debut in 1979 and the album "A Dama de Vermelho" in 1982. Other songs in their catalog include "A Mula e a Charanga" and "Bagunçaram Meu Coreto (Terno Preto)."

Zé Tapere, whose real name was José Antônio dos Santos, was the vocalist and lyricist. Casanova, who kept his personal life private, played guitar. The duo maintained an air of mystery, rarely giving interviews, which became part of their story. They stopped recording together after the early 1990s.
