Zé Tramela formed in São Paulo in the late 1970s, led by singer-songwriter José Tramela. Their early sound mixed rock, punk, and Brazilian folk, which didn't fit neatly into the mainstream at the time. They built an audience playing underground venues.
In 1985, the single "Tudo Lindo" broke through nationally. The song's melody was catchy, but its lyrics drew criticism from conservative groups who found its tone too irreverent. It became an anthem for some younger listeners anyway.
Other songs like "Primeiro Eu" and "Me Encontrar" followed. The band's lineup stayed fairly steady with José Tramela, guitarist Ricardo Lima, and bassist Marcelo Ramos working together for years. Their later recordings moved toward more experimental territory.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
