A Brazilian singer-songwriter whose work feels like poetry set to music.
For a good sense of his style, try 'Meu Amor, Minha Flor, Minha Menina' or 'Salão de Beleza'. They show how he works with words.
Zeca Baleiro came out of São Luís in northeastern Brazil with a debut album in 1997 called 'Por Onde Andará Stephen Fry?' His songs like 'Meu Amor, Minha Flor, Minha Menina' and 'Comigo' turn everyday moments into something more thoughtful. The 2007 album 'Telegrama' gave him one of his most lasting songs, the title track itself.
He started with that 1997 debut and followed with albums like 'Vôo Noturno' in 2001. There was a plagiarism accusation around his song 'O Buraco' that same year that got cleared up but stayed part of his story. Through it all, he kept writing songs that feel both personal and carefully crafted.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
