Zeca do Trombone formed in the early 1990s in Rio de Janeiro's Cidade de Deus favela, led by trombonist Anderson Zecca. Their debut album 'Um Grito na Favela' came out in 2005, followed by 'Favela Chic' in 2007. The band's sound pulls from samba, funk, and jazz, with lyrics that often touch on life in the favelas.
Songs like 'Abrigo' and 'Pra Encher' show their mix of Brazilian rhythms and social themes. They've released six studio albums through 2019, including 'Só Quem Conhece Sabe' and 'É de Lei'. The current lineup includes Zecca on trombone and vocals, Marquinhos do Pandeiro, Adriano dos Santos on bass, Carlos Henrique on drums, and Jefferson de Jesus on keyboards.
Their music has been heard at festivals outside Brazil, but they've kept their focus on the communities they come from. The work stays grounded in the sounds and stories of Rio's streets.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
