Zeca do Trombone e Roberto Sax were a Brazilian duo known for their 1973 song "Ave Anne." The track became their most recognizable work, a ballad that stuck around in Brazilian music memory. They also recorded other songs like "Na Cara Desse Cara" and "Na passarela."
José Edmundo de Almeida played trombone as Zeca do Trombone, while Roberto Sax handled the saxophone. Their music mixed samba with jazz elements, which some listeners found unorthodox at the time. They worked with other musicians including guitarist Dico da Viola and percussionist Airto Moreira.
Their approach didn't always fit neatly into industry expectations, but they kept recording. Beyond "Ave Anne," their catalog includes the song "Santa Inquisição." The duo's sound was built around those two brass instruments, trombone and saxophone, working together.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
