Zefrank formed in Portland, Oregon in the late 2000s around Zeke Frank, who had been working as a video blogger and podcast host. The band included drummer Shane Missler and guitarist Jason Anderson, with a sound that mixed alt-rock, folk, and electronica. Their debut album 'The Well-Intentioned Virus' came out in 2009.
That album included 'Stay the Same,' a song about wanting both change and stability that became a fan favorite. They followed it with albums like 'The Tomorrow Syndrome' in 2011, 'Memory Palace' in 2014, and 'The Shape of Things to Come' in 2017. Other songs in their catalog include 'Scared Song,' 'Chillout,' 'Fun Winter,' and 'Hindsight.'
Their lyrics often dealt with identity, loss, and the human condition. They also addressed social and environmental issues, as on 'The Mess We Made,' which looked at human impact on the planet. The band maintained a rotating lineup around Frank, with bassist Aaron Roche also appearing as a core member at times.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
