Zeh Rocha came up in Rio de Janeiro and put out his first album, 'Morena Rara,' in 2006. The title track got some attention, and the record won a Prêmio da Música Brasileira for Best Samba Album. He's kept at it since, with later albums like 'Samba Raro,' 'Raízes,' and 'Quintal.'
His songs, including 'Sina Violeira' and 'Xamâ,' work with samba rhythms and often touch on personal or social themes. He's played with a band called Grupo do Zeh Rocha, and his music has involved collaborations with other Brazilian artists like Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, and Gilberto Gil.
In 2013, he faced an arrest for alleged drug possession, which brought some public scrutiny. He kept making music afterward, with tracks like 'A Volta do Mar' and 'Dança de Corpo Fechado' appearing in his catalog.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
