Zelaya formed in Lima, Peru in 1969 with Sebastian Llosa, Jorge Luis Peschiera, Carlos Guerrero, and Rafael Morales. They released their debut single "Ring Ring" in 1971, which became popular across Latin America and Europe. The band put out several albums in the early 1970s, including De Nada, Zelaya II, and Zelaya III.
Their song "Ring Ring" remains their best-known track, but they also recorded other material like "Solamente Tú" and "Thiago." The original four members stayed together through at least 1974, when Zelaya V was released.
Some traditionalists criticized their music as too commercial in those early years, but the group kept working. They toured internationally after "Ring Ring" took off, playing for audiences who responded to their blend of Peruvian rhythms with pop and rock influences.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
