Zelienople formed in the town they're named after in Pennsylvania, with Matt Pond on vocals and guitar, Scott McLaughlin on bass, and Chris Hansen on drums. They started playing together in local basements and garages. Their debut album 'Valley of the Hunted' came out in 2003, followed by 'Escape from the Western World' in 2006.
That second album included 'Friendly With Father,' which became their most recognized track. The song's straightforward approach to complicated family dynamics connected with listeners. They also had another track called 'Ship That Goes Down' that showed up in their catalog.
After Hansen left the band in 2008, they brought in Ryan McAllister on drums. They kept releasing albums through the 2010s, including 'Treasure of the Divine' in 2009 and 'Verse' in 2016. The lineup changes didn't stop them from putting out music, though their sound evolved from those early basement sessions.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
