Zeljko Samardzic was born in 1953 in Vinkovci, Croatia. He started playing guitar and accordion early on, drawing from local folk traditions. In the early 1970s, he formed a band called Crveni Koralji.
His 1983 song "A Sad, Adio" became a major hit, a ballad about lost love that resonated widely. Other songs like "Dajte Neku Losu," "Jos Mogu da Poludim," and "Detelina s cetiri lista" also became familiar to listeners across the Balkans.
He released albums including "The Best of Zeljko Samardzic" in 1988, "Zaboravljeni" in 1992, and "Legenda" in 2000. He worked with other artists like Massimo Savić and Haris Džinović. His lyrics sometimes drew criticism during the Yugoslav Wars.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
