Zemanelson formed in Fortaleza, Brazil in 2010, started by three friends: singer-songwriter Marcos Lessa, bassist Érico Brás, and drummer Ricardo "Fuleiro" Lima. Their music pulls from Brazilian rhythms like forró and baião, mixed with some rock and pop. They've put out four studio albums, beginning with "Pé na Estrada" in 2012 and followed by "O Som da Amizade," "Nosso Lugar," and "Tudo Novo."
Their song "Amigos de Trabalho" became something of an anthem about finding solidarity with coworkers. Other tracks like "A Casa do Barbalho," "Encostado," and "Fila de Banco" capture everyday scenes and relationships in plain, relatable language. The band's lineup has included other musicians over time, like guitarist Lucas "Cavalo" Pinheiro and percussionist Chico Sena.
Zemanelson has toured around Brazil, and their live shows are known for a direct, energetic feel. While some critics have called their approach too commercial, the band has generally kept to writing accessible songs about friendship and ordinary life.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
