Zemar and Cleonice were a Brazilian duo from Maranhão who started performing in the early 1970s. Their 1976 debut album featured the song "Memória," a ballad that became widely known in Brazil.
During Brazil's military regime, their music faced censorship due to its social and political themes. They continued to address issues like poverty and inequality in their work.
They released several albums including Caminhos in 1978, Brasil de Fato in 1981, A Vida Que Passou in 1990, and Terra Firme in 1999. Zemar sang and played guitar while Cleonice sang and played piano.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
