Zemendes o Vaqueiro was born Antônio Lourenço Filho on a farm in Bahia. He learned to play accordion and sang with a straightforward, unadorned voice that fit the traditional folk music of his region.
In the early 1990s, he released "O Dono da Fazenda É Eu," a song about a cowboy's pride that became widely popular across Brazil. He recorded several albums in the following years, including Terra de Vaqueiro and Rodeio de Vaqueiro.
He worked with musicians like Lindinalva on backing vocals and José Carlos on accordion. Zemendes died in 2007.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
