Zendik formed in Los Angeles in the late 1960s with Mike Dunhill on vocals and guitar, Dave Parker on bass, and Tom Wilson on drums. They played acid rock with psychedelic touches, and their song 'Acid' from 1969 became something of a counterculture anthem. The band released several albums in the early 1970s, including 'Mindbender' in 1970 and 'Cosmic Debris' in 1971.
Their lyrics often challenged social norms, which led to some friction with authorities and critics. Songs like 'Great God Greed' and 'Iconoclast' reflected that confrontational streak. They kept recording through the mid-1970s, putting out 'Heavy Trip' in 1973 and a compilation called 'The Last Days of Zendik' in 1975 before disbanding.
Zendik's music had a raw, intense quality that drew a dedicated following. Tracks such as 'Children Of The Night' and 'Dead City' showed their blend of aggression and psychedelic exploration.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
