Zeniver formed in Barcelona around Xavi Ciurans on vocals and David Martínez on guitar. Their first album, '7 Vidas' from 2006, mixed flamenco with pop and rock, which gave them some international notice. They followed it with records like 'Cuentos de la Puerta de Alcalá' in 2009 and 'La Caja de Pandora' in 2012.
Songs like 'Agonía' and 'Lamento' show their tendency toward emotional, ballad-like writing, while 'Bah!' has more of a rock edge. The lineup has included percussionist Javier Jiménez, bassist Carlos Peña, and keyboardist Toni Colom alongside Ciurans and Martínez.
The band has dealt with internal disagreements and occasional member changes, plus some public disputes over songwriting that led to plagiarism accusations. They kept recording through it, though, and maintained a following that connected with their direct, sometimes dramatic style.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
