Zenknat formed in Brasília in 1994 with Marcus "Kretus" Andrade on vocals, Rodrigo "Gugu" Rodrigues on guitar, Márcio "Marreco" Borges on bass, and Rafael "Francelino" Bentes on drums.
In 2001 they released 'Um Recado Para Uma Bílingue Burra,' which became one of their most recognizable songs. The track took aim at linguistic elitism, though the band's pointed lyrics sometimes brought accusations of racism and misogyny from critics. Kretus was arrested in 2006 for incitement to violence after a concert.
Lineup changes followed, with Gugu and Francelino leaving the band. Zenknat kept recording through the shifts, putting out albums like 'Dor de Cotovelo' in 2008 and 'Amor e Dor Demais' in 2012. They released a self-titled album in 2017.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
