Zephyr-21 formed in Seattle in the late 1990s, with a lineup that included vocalist Anya Seraphina, violinist Ethan Solstice, and keyboardist Celeste Aurora. Their sound mixed classical instrumentation with electronic textures, which gave songs like "Chanson D'espoir" and "Histoire De La Vie" a particular atmosphere. The band's debut album was called "Echoes of the Soul."
Their music drew some criticism for being unconventional, and they had a reputation for being outspoken about social issues. They followed their first album with "Ashes and Diamonds," which continued their style of introspective lyrics and layered arrangements. Other songs in their catalog include "Il Est Temps De Se Quitter" and "J'aurai Du T'écouter."
After Zephyr-21, Anya Seraphina worked as a singer-songwriter, Ethan Solstice composed for film and television, and Celeste Aurora created experimental sound installations. Their recordings from the late '90s and early 2000s remain their main body of work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
