Zequinha de Abreu was born in Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, São Paulo, in 1880. He worked as a mandolinist and composer, mostly in the chôro style that was popular in Brazil at the time. In 1912, he wrote a waltz called "Branca," which he dedicated to his sister who had died young. That song became his most famous piece.
He also wrote other songs like "A Dor de Amar," "Amar sem ter amado," and "Amor Imortal." Some people claimed he borrowed ideas from other composers, but his music remained popular. An orchestra named after him was formed in 1967 to keep playing his compositions.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
