Zequinha Pianista was a Brazilian band that formed in São Paulo during the 1960s. They were led by Zequinha de Abreu, who handled vocals and guitar, with Benedito do Couto on bass and José Luiz Gonçalves on drums. Their sound mixed traditional Brazilian rhythms with gospel themes, which sometimes drew criticism in a conservative climate.
Their debut album from 1965, titled "Glória Glória Aleluia," became popular across Brazil. That song, along with others like "Deus é Fiel" and "O trem da vida," helped establish their presence. They worked with vocalists Elis Regina and Alcione at times, and collaborated with artists including Peninha and Padre Marcelo Rossi.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
