Zero19 formed in São Paulo around 2009, with members Dudu, Bruno, DJ Jabs, and DJ Hernani. They started playing underground shows and put out a mixtape called 'Estúdio Cósmico' in 2010. Their sound mixed hip-hop with Brazilian rhythms, and they got some attention with a 2011 single, 'Essa É Pro RAP! (part.gaber Rapsim)', which featured gaber Rapsim. The song became a kind of anthem in Brazilian rap circles.
Their lyrics often dealt with social issues like poverty and racism, which drew both fans and some criticism. They kept at it, releasing an album called 'Novo Mundo' and working with other artists like Karol Conká and Marcelo D2. The group built a reputation for being straightforward and sticking to their style without much compromise.
They were part of that São Paulo hip-hop scene in the late 2000s and early 2010s, when a lot of Brazilian rap was finding its voice. Zero19's music from that period, especially tracks like 'Essa É Pro RAP!', still gets mentioned when people talk about how the genre developed locally.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
