Zeu was a Brazilian band that formed in the late 1990s. The band's lineup included Zeu de Abreu on vocals and percussion, Guilherme Kastrup on guitar, Ricardo Dias Gomes on bass, and Fabiano Kueva on drums.
They released their self-titled debut album in 2003, which featured "Paty Girl." Later albums like The Quest for Light and Cicada incorporated Brazilian rhythms, while Blow to the Head was a collaboration with the French electronic duo Air. Their sound was experimental and didn't fit neatly into one genre.
Some critics questioned whether Zeu's use of Brazilian rhythms and indigenous imagery amounted to cultural appropriation. Others felt their experimental approach came at the expense of musicality. The band kept working despite these debates, but they never achieved much recognition outside Brazil.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
