Zeus formed in Rome in 1999, a four-piece band with members Davide "Sputo" De Luca, Stefano "Sisma" Paniccia, Guido "Gufo" Bonolis, and Gaio Chioccia. They worked with rap, reggae, and ragga rhythms from the start, which gave them an unusual sound for the Italian scene at the time. Their debut album "Razza Bastarda" came out in 2001, followed by records like "Bella Storie" in 2004 and "Hanno Ucciso l'Uomo Ragno" in 2008.
Some of their songs, like "O Sequestro de Perséfone" and "K Ô S," show that mix of styles clearly. They also collaborated with other artists on tracks such as "Prisão Perpétua" featuring Meio Kilo and "Afrokilla" with Pig. The band's lyrics often touched on social and political themes, which sometimes drew attention and debate.
Zeus kept releasing music through the 2010s, putting out "Oltre" in 2011 and a compilation called "Ancora" in 2014. Their recordings include songs like "Ilha da Luta," "Emmet Brown," "Rap, Reggae e Ragga," and "Paralisia Lunar." They built a following in Italy with their live shows and consistent output over those years.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
