Archive material and source history
Zezinho and Licinha were a Brazilian duo from Betim, Minas Gerais. They started performing together in 1962, mostly at local festivals and religious events. Their first album came out in 1966, titled 'Zezinho e Licinha Cantam Jesus Nazareno.' The title track, 'Jesus Nazareno,' became their most recognizable song.
Their music was straightforward and devotional, which drew some criticism at the time for being too simple or commercial. They kept recording through the late 1960s and early 1970s, putting out albums like 'Caminho da Fé' and 'Sou Um Pobre Pecador.' Zezinho handled lead vocals and guitar, while Licinha provided backing vocals and percussion.
Zezinho died in 1997, and Licinha passed away in 2014. Their song 'Jesus Nazareno' still gets played at religious gatherings in Brazil.
