Zezinho Maranhão was born José de Ribamar Cunha in Penalva, Maranhão, Brazil in 1954. He started singing at local festivals as a young man. His debut album 'Chorando na Chuva' came out in 1982, followed by records like 'Sorriso de Criança' and 'Cheiro de Mato' later in the decade.
In 1987 he released 'Fale Por Mim,' a song that became widely known in Brazil. The track asks a woman to speak for a man who can't express his own feelings. Another song, 'Insígnia,' also appears among his more familiar work.
He was involved in a serious car accident in 1990. Over time he recorded more than thirty albums, including 'Deus É Fiel' in 2003. His band at various points included musicians like José Alberto on accordion and Eraldo Sousa on guitar.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
