Zhang Shan Wei formed in 2008 with Zhang Qi, Jian Jun, Guo Weixiang, and Chen Lele. They started playing in Beijing bars and clubs before releasing their self-titled debut album in 2011. The band's sound mixed Chinese folk with pop and rock elements.
Their 2014 song "Qian Shou" became widely popular in China. The ballad's title translates to "A Thousand Hands." After the song's success, the band faced plagiarism accusations in 2015, though the lawsuit was eventually dismissed. Jian Jun and Guo Weixiang left around that time.
Zhang Qi and Chen Lele continued with new members like guitarist Zheng Junhao and bassist Xu Ke. They released albums in 2017 and 2020, with songs including "Tian Shang Ren Jian," "Xiang Qiansuo," and "Wuliang."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
