Zhōng Shū Tóng formed in Beijing in 2014. Their first EP, 'The Distance Between You and Me,' came out the following year. The band's sound leans on acoustic guitar and piano, with songs like 'Long Break Up' and 'Wo Zai A' showing their hand for melancholic, introspective writing.
They released albums including 'Empty Country' in 2017 and 'A Thousand Miles' in 2021. Around that 2017 period, there was some talk about plagiarism accusations, though those were dismissed. The group includes Zhang Wei on vocals and guitar, Wang Yijie on guitar, Chen Fangyi on bass, and Zhang Chao on drums.
Their music tends to circle themes of love and loss without much fanfare. It's the kind of stuff that finds its audience quietly, without needing to declare itself as anthemic or groundbreaking.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
