Zibbz formed in Stockholm with Martin Hederos on vocals and keyboards, Niclas Frisk on guitar, Johan Högberg on bass, and Fredrik Björling on drums. They put out their first album 'Stones' in 2003, which included the title track that became a quiet favorite. The record had a mix of folk and rock with some electronic touches, setting a tone for what they'd do later.
They followed up with albums like 'Into the Void' in 2006 and 'The Weight of the World' in 2012. Their lyrics tended to look inward, dealing with love and loss in a way that felt personal rather than flashy. They worked with a few other artists along the way, including José González and The Knife, which fit with their textured approach to sound.
Over time, their music found listeners who appreciated its atmospheric quality and emotional weight. They never chased a mainstream sound, sticking instead to a style that felt true to their own sensibilities. The band's work has been mentioned alongside acts like Bon Iver and The National, though Zibbz always felt like their own thing, a little more grounded, a little less concerned with fitting in.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
