Ziel Bevrijd formed in the Netherlands in the late 1990s with vocalist Joost de Boer, guitarists Edwin van Weenen and Nando Oosthoek, and bassist Frank van Essen. Their debut album 'Straal Vanhoop' came out in 2001, establishing their sound with heavy guitar work and de Boer's distinctive vocals.
They followed with albums like 'Tussen Kunst en Kitsch' in 2004 and 'Eerlijk Duurt Het Langst' in 2007. The lineup changed over time, with van Weenen leaving in 2004 and van Essen in 2012, while de Boer and Oosthoek remained constant. Later members included guitarist Edwin van de Velde and drummer Arnoud Jonker.
The band's 2012 self-titled album continued their approach to metal. Their music often dealt with themes of despair and inner struggle, as heard on tracks like 'Straal Vanhoop' from their first record.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
