Zilá Fonseca was born in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, where she grew up surrounded by the region's musical traditions. Her father was a musician who introduced her to Brazilian music's repertoire. She released her debut album 'Zilé' in 2000, which brought her wider attention.
Her music draws from various Brazilian styles including samba, bossa nova, baião, and maracatu. She has worked with musicians like Marco Lobo on guitar and cavaquinho, Ricardo Silveira on bass, Gustavo Anunciato on keyboards and accordion, and Christiano Galvão on drums.
One of her best-known songs is 'Perambulando,' a ballad that became particularly popular. She continued releasing albums including 'Sentido' in 2007, 'Retrato' in 2011, 'Na Virada da Noite' in 2014, 'Tempo' in 2017, and 'Intimo' in 2020.
