Zimbabwe formed in the early 2000s in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, a region known for son jarocho music. Brothers Emmanuel and Ernesto García started the group, drawing from that tradition while adding contemporary rhythms. Their 2008 album 'Traición a La Mexicana' gave them their biggest hit, a song that became widely recognized beyond Mexico.
Some traditionalists initially resisted their approach to son jarocho, and in 2015 they faced accusations of plagiarizing a traditional melody for 'Traición a La Mexicana.' Zimbabwe denied this, saying their version was original. Other songs like 'Paseo Nocturno' and 'Amor Criminal' show their range within this blended style.
The group's lineup has included Emmanuel García on vocals, guitar and jarana, Ernesto García on vocals and requinto, César Ulises Díaz on zapateado, Israel Cruz on marimba, Antonio García on bass, and Ricardo Gutiérrez on drums. They've released albums like 'Una Noche en Tlacotalpan' in 2004 and 'El Baile del Diablo' in 2013.
