A Liverpool band that mixed English pop with Portuguese lyrics for over a decade.
For a quick sense of their vibe, "Breve" and "Antes de Partir" frame it pretty well. They're both in Portuguese, but the melodies feel like they could've come from any Liverpool practice room.
They were one of those rare English bands that wrote most of their material in Portuguese, which gave songs like "Antes de Partir" a different kind of pull. Their four albums between 2007 and 2015 kept that bilingual pop-rock thing going when not many others were trying it. The fact that they stuck with it for over a decade says something about the sound they were after.
They formed in Liverpool in 2004 with Stevie Wonder on vocals and guitar. After their debut single "Viva" in 2006 got them a Mercury deal, they released four albums through 2015, mixing pop and rock with some electronic touches along the way.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
