Zimpraise formed in Harare in 1999 with a group that included Betty Makoni, Blessing Shumba, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Gibson Makumbe, Kuda Mutsvene, Lloyd Tevedzai, and Michael Mahendere. They started putting out albums like 'Count Your Blessings' in 2001 and 'We Are One' in 2005. The lineup has changed over time, with Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave leaving in 2013.
Their song 'Marvelous Thing/My Life Is a Testimony' became a staple in Zimbabwean gospel circles. They've played at places like the National Sports Stadium in Harare and the O2 Arena in London. The group has won some awards, including Gospel Album of the Year at the National Arts Merit Awards in 2012.
Zimpraise's music draws from traditional African melodies and contemporary gospel. They've released albums like 'The Name of Jesus' in 2009 and 'Songs of Worship' in 2015. Their work has been featured on radio and television stations in Zimbabwe and beyond.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
