Zina formed in Yogyakarta in 2014 around singer and songwriter Rara Sekar. Their debut album came out that same year. The band's lineup has included pianist Adinda Thomas, bassist Rheina Ipeh, and drummer Anka Diop at various points.
Their song 'Close Nela' appeared in 2014 and became their most recognizable track. Other songs like 'Parle Moi De Lui' and 'Rotina de Drake' followed on later albums such as 'Arini' in 2016 and 'Nakun' in 2018.
Zina's music draws from Indonesian folk traditions while incorporating ambient and electronic textures. In 2015, they faced some criticism for performing at a concert sponsored by a cigarette company, which they defended as maintaining artistic independence.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
