Zina Skate Rock came out of Brasília's skateboarding culture around 2008, with Fabinho Almeida on guitar and vocals, Lulu Garcez on bass, and RR Vasconcelos on drums. Their sound mixed punk with bits of ska and reggae, which didn't quite fit the harder local scene at the time.
In 2011, they put out 'Sonho Mais,' a single that caught on with Brazilian youth. The song's chorus about dreaming more even when it costs you became something people shouted back at shows.
They released albums like 'Pra Quem Gosta de Ser Livre' in 2012 and 'Quem É O Terrorista?' in 2014. Their lyrics often touched on social issues and personal struggles, delivered with a confrontational energy that drew criticism from some corners. They also had a public back-and-forth with another punk band, Garotos Podres, which stirred up talk in the scene.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
