Zinkplaat formed in the Netherlands in the late 1970s around singer Han Römer and guitarist Jan Westerman. Their debut album 'Voorbij' came out in 1980, followed by 'De Oversteek' in 1983 and 'Alles Is Ok' in 1985. The band's lineup changed over time, with musicians like bassist Marc Mommaas, keyboardist Kees Buenen, and drummer Jan Leijenaar passing through.
Their song 'Alles Is Ok' became particularly well-known in the Netherlands, a straightforward pop track that resonated with listeners. Another track, 'Blikkitaar Blues,' shows their range. The music had a direct quality that worked on radio and at festivals.
Zinkplaat's lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being outspoken, but they kept making music their own way. They weren't trying to fit a particular mold, which gave their work a certain durability in Dutch popular culture.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
