Zion777 formed in Brazil in 1997, originally as Natiruts. The band's early lineup included Ricardo Drubscky on vocals, João Santiago on guitar, Bruno Kortiz on bass, and Ruivo on drums. They found their audience with reggae that carried social messages, and their 2003 album 'Natiruts Reggae Power' gave them a national platform. The track 'Benito Gomes Sant'Ana' from that record became particularly well-known.
A legal dispute over the name Natiruts in 2007 led them to adopt the name Zion777. They've continued releasing albums, including 'Liberdade Pra Dentro Da Cabeça' in 2015. Songs like 'Liberdade' and 'Medo' reflect their ongoing focus on themes of freedom and social consciousness within their reggae sound.
The band's current members include Drubscky, Santiago, Kortiz, and several others like saxophonist Felipe 'Sax' Souza. Their discography spans eight studio albums up through 2020's 'Vivendo no Amor'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
