Ziynet Sali is a Turkish singer-songwriter born in 1975. She studied at the Istanbul State Conservatory, where she trained in Turkish classical music before moving toward pop. Her debut album 'Alibi' came out in 2001, and its track 'Chiculata' became an immediate hit, mixing Turkish and Latin rhythms in a way that caught on widely.
Her albums include 'Körfez,' 'Yalın,' and 'Kalbim Seni Çok Sevdi.' Songs like 'Ah Olmaz' and 'Alaturka' show her leaning into themes of love and longing, often with a blend of traditional Turkish elements and modern pop production. In 2005, she faced plagiarism allegations over lyrics in one of her songs, though the case was later dropped.
She has worked with musicians like Yılmaz Erdoğan, Candan Erçetin, and Tarkan. Her band has included various instrumentalists over time. Sali won the Golden Butterfly award for Best Female Singer in 2004 and 2005.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
